COINCIDE Project

Through a team science approach, COINCIDE aims to address the critical challenges of suboptimal neurodevelopment and poor mental health in India. We aim to generate evidence and skills in three key areas:

1. A comprehensive understanding of the individual and combined effects of multiple co-occurring exposures on neuro-development and child mental health, especially beyond the first 1000 days.
2. Identify determinants of adult mental health disorders since most have their origins during childhood and adolescence.
3. Explain the pathways through which social vulnerability factors such as poverty and gender interact with the key exposures to lead to poor child outcomes.

Project Overview

Data will be collected from two diverse birth cohorts representing rural North and urban South India to assess how nutrition, psychosocial environment, and pollutants such as lead, pesticides and air pollution affect cognition and mental health across the early, middle and late childhood periods (3-9-years). Our models will inform a comprehensive Theory of Change for child development in India, which in turn will help the development of tailored interventions to promote child outcomes in diverse聽 settings and age groups.
