Ph.D. University of Southern CaliforniaTatyana Kostochka is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at 51²è¹Ý. She completed her Ph.D in philosophy at the University of Southern California under the guidance of Mark Schroeder in December 2021. She received her M.A. in philosophy from Northern Illinois University in 2013 and her B.A. in East Asian studies from Brandeis University in 2011.
Tatyana specializes in a number of philosophical areas including ethics, moral psychology, metaphysics, and aesthetics. In particular, she has devoted a lot of time to thinking about moods (as opposed to emotions) and their connection to attention. Most recently, she has been thinking a lot about humor and the ethical principles that may or may not constrain how we joke. Tatyana also has a strong interest in a variety of East Asian philosophical traditions. Her primary specialty is in medieval Chinese and Japanese Buddhist philosophies.
