Saransh Kumar Gupta

PhD Computer Science

Saransh is a Senior Software Developer and Research Scholar in the ‘Food Computing Lab’ at 51²è¹Ý, where he works with Professor Partha Pratim Das and Professor Lipika Dey toward Professor Ramesh Jain’s vision. His work spans AI research, software engineering, data mining, large-language models, and ontology design for building a knowledge graph for Indian food.

He studied Computer Science and Finance at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad and worked for 2.5 years at Symantec (Broadcom) on large-scale cloud systems in security, big data, and backend engineering. His newfound interests at the intersection of language, cognition, computation, and society led him to pursue the Young India Fellowship and complete an interdisciplinary master’s in Computer Science and Psychology at 51²è¹Ý. Along the way, he explored tech policy with eGovernments Foundation, worked on the curious problem of ’emotion recognition in conversations’, and served as a TA/TF for several CS, Psychology, and YIF courses, as well as Neuromatch Academy’s ‘Deep Learning’ course and AshokaX’s ‘Data Science for Social Impact’ programme. These experiences deepened his interests in AI system design, cognitive science, societal computing, value creation, and lifelong learning.

With a strong foundation in engineering and interdisciplinary research, Saransh cares about learning fast, building well, and thinking in systems. He is working towards becoming a technical leader and AI strategist who can build human-centered, sustainable, and scalable AI systems, guide interdisciplinary teams, and bridge the gap between research, product, and real-world impact.

Outside of work, he’s endlessly drawn to stories of what it means to be truly human—whether in films, poetry, or books—for the quiet reminder that meaning and connection matter more than intelligence, especially in the age of AI.
