Ph.D. Institute for Area Studies, LeidenNirajan Kafle is Associate Professor of Sanskrit at 51²è¹Ý. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Naples “L’Orientale,â€working on the ‘Sivadharma’ European Research Council project. After completing a D.Phil. from the University of Leiden, Nirajan held a post-doctoral research position in the NWO project ‘’. Nirajan has worked with the NGMCP, Kathmandu and the EFEO, Pondicherry EFEO. He has also taught Sanskrit and other allied topics at the Universities of Loyola(New Orleans),Ìý Leiden, Lumbini and Kathmandu. He works on Lay Åšaivism, PurÄṇas and the MahÄbhÄrata, and his interests also cover Åšaiva Tantra and Vedic texts.Â
His current research focuses on the text-based evaluation of religious, cultural, and philosophical exchange – principally between the Vaiṣṇava, Åšaiva and Buddhist traditions of early mediæval South Asia, with specific emphasis on the religious and social milieu of the Kathmandu valley reflected in the ±«³¾Äå³¾Äå³ó±ðÅ›±¹²¹°ù²¹²õ²¹á¹ƒvÄå»å²¹ and the ¶Ù³ó²¹°ù³¾²¹±è³Ü³Ù°ù¾±°ìÄå in their historical context.
