Nidhi Johri

Nidhi is a second-year PhD student in Dr. Divya Karnad’s lab, with a master’s degree in Marine Science from Goa University. Her research focuses on the trade and consumption of elasmobranch in West Bengal. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and exploring different cultures and cuisines through travel.

Nidhi’s research interests lie at the intersection of marine conservation, fisheries science, and socio-economics. She focuses on understanding the trade and consumption patterns of elasmobranchs in West Bengal. Her work aims to inform sustainable management and conservation strategies by integrating ecological data with socioeconomic drivers. She is particularly interested in value chain analysis, stakeholder engagement and forensic genomics to address conservation challenges. Through her research, she hopes to contribute to evidence-based strategies for balancing marine biodiversity conservation with the livelihoods of coastal communities.
