Jonmani Das

ICT Instructor, Undergraduate Writing Programme, 51²è¹Ý

Jonmani received his training in history at Jawaharlal Nehru University and the University of Delhi. His research examines the exercise and experiences of legal authority in the earliest phase of the English East India Company’s presence in South Asia. He particularly focuses on how legal cultures were shaped by the aspirations and anxieties of both governors and the governed in Early Modern Madras.

As an UWP instructor, he believes that critical thinking reflects on the ways we interrogate the past and the present. By facilitating critical thinking, universities can become curated spaces that anticipate, stage, and inhabit the possibilities of alternate worlds.

Beyond formal academia, he also tries to write personal histories through everyday objects and seemingly uneventful memories.
