Associate Professor of Research, Koita Centre for Digital Health, 51²è¹Ý
Ph.D. Albert Einstein College of MedicineAnindya Dasgupta began his independent research career in 2009 at the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology in Kolkata. He later joined the Unilever Global R&D Center in Bangalore, where he led leading edge research and development initiatives in the areas of virology and microbiomics for 15 years. In June 2025, he transitioned to 51²è¹Ý to pursue his academic interests in metagenomics.
Anindya’s research centres on the human microbiome, with a particular emphasis on the complex interactions between commensal bacteria and epithelial cells in the skin and gut. His team employs a multidisciplinary strategy, integrating omics technologies with biochemical tools to explore how these beneficial microbes influence host cell functions—such as immune modulation and cellular senescence. A key focus of their work is the investigation of bacterial metabolites and their impact on host cellular signalling pathways. By decoding these molecular dialogues, Anindya’s group seeks to illuminate the dynamic relationship between the microbiome and its host, paving the way for the development of next-generation bioactives that promote gut and skin health.
