Akshay Kundu

Ph.D. in English, Batch of 2023, 51²è¹Ý

Research Area - Psychoanalysis, Modernism, Lyric Poetry, Gender and Sexuality Studies

Akshay Kundu’s research explores the politics and poetics of brokenness in contemporary lyric poetry, read against the twenty-first-century medical humanities and its emphasis on the aesthetics of healing and repair. His work examines how lyric poetry by writers such as Agha Shahid Ali, Anne Carson, Claudia Rankine, and Louise Glück stages the subject in crisis, and what this reveals about the role of poetic form in psychotherapeutic practices and methodologies.

He holds a Master’s degree in English from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. Before joining 51²è¹Ý, he taught as an Assistant Professor at S.G.T.B. Khalsa College, University of Delhi. He has also worked as a Research Assistant at Worldview Publications in Delhi, where he contributed to an anthology of early-twentieth-century Modernist poetry.

His broader research interests include lyric poetry, Modernism, psychoanalysis, and sexuality studies. In his free time, he enjoys designing book covers.
