Dear All,
The Department of Mathematics invites you to a Research Talk on September 08, 2025 (Monday).
Title: Introduction to differentiation on the real line
Zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/91495446954?pwd=Ki76sDUToyLsHD1mqT4EcwdWaPJhQ6.1
Abstract: Differentiation is one of the most basic operations which is used to explore infinitesimal properties of functions and eventually it also allows us to infer some global properties of functions from their local properties. In this lecture, I will introduce the notion of derivative of a function on the real line and then explore some basic implications on the function itself. I will then discuss some fundamental theorems such as the mean value theorem and the intermediate value property for the derivatives. If time permits, I will keep the last part of my discussion on how derivation can be used to detect geometric properties of nice enough functions such as convexity/concavity etc.
We look forward to your participation.
